About the role:
As Lead Data Engineer, you will own the direction and execution of Fisher & Paykel’s data engineering capability, enabling high‑quality, trusted data to support critical business decisions globally. You’ll work with large, complex datasets, lead a team of data engineers, and collaborate closely with data, technology, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, data‑driven solutions.
Key responsibilities:
Own and evolve Fisher & Paykel’s data engineering strategy in partnership with the Data & Analytics Leadership Team, ensuring alignment with business priorities and long‑term goals.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team of data engineers, providing technical direction, coaching, and support across multiple data initiatives.
Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and efficient data pipelines, continuously improving data quality, performance, and availability.
Define, document, and advocate for best‑practice data modelling, management, and quality standards to maintain data integrity and stakeholder trust.
Enable high‑impact reporting and analytics solutions that deliver actionable insights across margin optimisation, operational efficiency, and key business metrics.
Partner with business stakeholders, data scientists, architects, and IT to translate business needs into clear technical solutions, and communicate “data speak” in a way that drives understanding and action.
Identify and lead opportunities to automate processes, optimise data delivery, improve platform scalability, and provide informed guidance on tools, platforms, and emerging technologies.
That’s the role, so who you are:
5-10+ years’ experience sourcing, building, modelling, and analysing organisational data, with prior experience leading or mentoring data engineering teams.
Demonstrated leadership capability or a strong interest in leading and developing others, with the ability to mentor, influence, and lift capability across data engineering teams.
Deep expertise in SQL, including writing optimised, reusable queries and reviewing and improving the work of others.
Strong hands‑on experience with the Microsoft ecosystem, including SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, and Power BI as an integrated analytics stack.
Proven experience designing and maintaining enterprise BI and reporting solutions, with strong working knowledge of Power BI.
Solid experience across data sourcing (including CDC), extraction, transformation, modelling, maintenance, and integration across multiple systems.
Comfortable using statistics and analytical techniques to generate insights, recommendations, and clear business outcomes.
Able to provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise, influencing technical and non‑technical stakeholders with clarity, confidence, and impact.
