Senior Technical Project Manager
The Technical Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex IT initiatives across infrastructure and applications, while also supporting major production maintenance activities.
This role operates in a regulated enterprise environment and requires strong technical understanding, hands-on delivery ownership, and the ability to work across global stakeholders, vendors, and internal technology teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end management of IT projects from initiation through delivery and transition to BAU.
- Deliver high-quality technology solutions that meet business, regulatory, and security requirements.
- Define and manage project scope, priorities, timelines, milestones, dependencies, RAID logs, resource plans, and deliverables.
- Anticipate delivery risks and issues; assess trade-offs across scope, cost, complexity, and risk, and drive mitigation actions.
- Ensure adherence to enterprise project governance, delivery standards, and reporting requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate IT infrastructure and application-related initiatives, including upgrades, migrations, and technology refresh activities.
- Working with Change and Incident management teams across the organisation to ensure alignment and on time delivery to objectives.
- Own and coordinate production cutovers, and after-hours changes across infrastructure and application teams.
- Partner with project sponsors and senior stakeholders to define objectives, priorities, and success criteria.
- Facilitate discussions and decision-making forums, including Steering Committee meetings.
- Provide clear, transparent, and realistic status updates on progress, risks, and issues.
- Manage and actively challenge third-party vendors on design, timelines, risks, and delivery quality.
- Ensure vendor deliverables align with enterprise architecture, security, and operational standards.
- Manage and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and expenditures
- Track resource allocation across internal teams and external vendors to ensure delivery commitments are met.
Qualifications, Expertise and Attributes
- Essential experience and proven track record of previous end-to-end project implementations in a complex, large-scale environment that involves multiple senior internal and external stakeholders using appropriate methodologies and toolsets.
- Proven and demonstrable experience as a Senior Project Manager in complex IT Service Management / Technology environments.
- Experience working in a regulated industry is highly desirable.
- Comfortable working in Waterfall, Agile & Hybrid styles, demonstrating an ability to select the best approaches for the tasks and challenges at hand.
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Data & analytical expertise, ability to elicit and agree requirements across a broad a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Expert planning, control, and monitoring skills.
- Solid understanding of the importance of and adherence to Technology Risk Management standards and security.
- Proven communication skills with the gravitas to interact at Executive and Senior Leadership levels.
- Significant experience in people management and matrix team leadership.
- Extensive experience managing and partnering with multiple 3rd party vendors.
- Strong understanding of project and programme methodologies (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2, APM).
- Project and Programme Management experience of at least 5 plus years.
- Knowledge and experience of using PPM solutions, Jira / Atlassian & MS 365 an advantage.
- Strong understanding of systems, data workflows, integrations, Internet and intranet applications and enterprise environments
- Ability to understand and interpret technical concepts such as Python, SQL, and systems architecture, without the need for hands-on
- Strong understanding of Servers, network (Switches, Routers, Firewalls, LAN, DMZ), security, storage, and backup, without the need for hands-on
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivery.
- Ability to understand and interpret technical designs, architecture diagrams, and implementation plans without requiring hands-on engineering work.
