Description
Auto Driveaway is seeking an experienced Senior Driver Recruiter to lead driver recruiting, onboarding, and early-stage retention for our Truck Transport division. This role goes beyond filling seats — it is responsible for building a reliable, engaged, and utilized driver population in a competitive market where drivers have choices.
This is a hands-on, high-impact individual contributor role that partners closely with operations, dispatch, safety, and compliance to ensure drivers are not only hired, but successfully activated and retained.
Key Responsibilities
Driver Recruiting & Selection
- Recruit professional truck drivers, including Owner Operators and Independent Contractors, primarily Class A CDL (DOT-only candidates may be trained)
- Screen applications and conduct phone and/or in-person interviews to assess experience, safety, reliability, and cultural fit
- Serve as the primary point of contact through screening, onboarding, training, and orientation
- Set clear expectations around work availability, dispatch processes, pay structure, fuel allowance, and load options
- Actively sell Auto Driveaway’s value proposition in a market with multiple competing truckaway companies
Driver Engagement, Utilization & Retention
- Partner with dispatch and operations to ensure newly hired drivers are quickly activated and consistently utilized
- Follow up with new drivers during their first 30 days to close gaps between hiring and utilization
- Identify early warning signs of disengagement and proactively intervene
- Track and analyze driver activity to support retention and safe utilization
- Build relationships with drivers who choose to work primarily with Auto Driveaway
Stakeholder Partnership
- Work closely with the President of Truck Transport, dispatch teams, safety, and compliance
- Support regional and business-driven recruiting initiatives based on forecasted volume and demand
- Serve as a trusted recruiting partner, not a transactional handoff point
Compliance & Safety Support
- Ensure DOT driver files are complete and compliant with FMCSA regulations
- Assist with driver pre-employment and random drug screening administration
- Coordinate and conduct driver orientation
- Manage new-hire Comdata card distribution
- Complete previous employment verifications
- Prepare and distribute required driver documentation and legal paperwork
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Provide recruiting, onboarding, utilization, and retention reporting as requested
- Identify process gaps and recommend improvements to recruiting, onboarding, and driver experience
- Contribute to strengthening Auto Driveaway’s reputation as a preferred truckaway company nationwide
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of recruiting experience, ideally within driver, transportation, logistics, or other blue-collar environments
- Experience recruiting CDL drivers, owner operators, or independent contractors strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of blue-collar workforce dynamics and driver decision-making
- Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA compliance requirements
- Ability to balance recruiting, onboarding, follow-up, and compliance responsibilities
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with shifting priorities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and recruiting systems
What Makes This Role Different
- Reports directly to the President of Truck Transport
- Focus on quality, engagement, and utilization — not just hiring
- High visibility and autonomy with real impact on operational success
- Opportunity to elevate and professionalize driver recruiting within the business
- Competitive pay positioning, strong load availability, base pay, and fuel allowance for drivers — making this a compelling recruiting sell
