  Position Summary: Shumaker is seeking a litigation paralegal to join its Columbus, Ohio office. This position involves working with litigation attorneys primarily on business and regulatory disputes and will occasionally in real estate and corporate matters.  Essential Duties:
  • Assist attorneys in organizing and managing case files; including maintaining document databases and electronic records
  • Draft legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.
  • Research and analyzes statute, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys
  • Assist with trial preparation, including preparing trial exhibits and witness lists, and coordinating logistics for court appearances
  • Scheduling of witness interviews, inform witness of trial dates; in certain cases, the paralegal may be asked to conduct an initial interview
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
  • Associate degree required.
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved paralegal program preferred.
  • Four or more years’ experience as a paralegal.
  • Project and case management skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Position may involve some transactional (real estate and corporate) work and environmental and regulatory work.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sits frequently, six out of eight hours per day. Siting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
  • Bends and stoops occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
