We currently have a full-time opportunity for a Trades Assistant/Handyman.  Join our team at Bluescope Steel in Hastings, VIC and play a key role in providing general handyman services to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for staff, and visitors. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you'll help deliver high-quality outcomes that support our essential services.

The role is Monday to Friday 7am – 3:30pm, no Weekend work!!!!

What You’ll Do (key responsibilities)

This role offers a broad scope, with key responsibilities including:

  • Perform both preventative and reactive maintenance tasks on buildings, structures, furniture and equipment.
  • General handyman duties; grounds; waste disposal and assisting where required the qualified trades persons on site.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections and servicing of equipment, fittings, and infrastructure as required.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Respond promptly to urgent requests as required and directed.
  • Maintain logs of completed work, inspections, and materials used.
  • Safely operate tools, machinery, and maintenance equipment.

What You’ll Bring (experience required)

  • The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of general repairs / maintenance, tools, and materials
  • Previous experience in maintenance or handyman roles (Commercial/Industrial setting preferred) 
  • Certificate or trade qualification (preferred).
  • A driver’s licence will be required for this role
  • Knowledge of OHS regulations and safe handling of hazardous materials.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

**Please note, as a prerequisite for this role candidates will be required to complete work rights check, pre-employment medical check, AFP National Police History certificate and reference checks.
