- Pay Rate: $25.65 - $32.06/hr
Experience Required: Four (4) years hands on experience at the appropriate license level or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the job.
- Minimum Education Requirements: High School diploma or G.E.D. Vocational/Technical school certification preferred.

- Primary Work Location: Zoo setting both indoors and outdoors.
Certification: Must possess a valid Oklahoma motor vehicle operator’s license (within 30 days of hire). Must have an active Electrical Journeyman’s License or equivalent. An Unlimited Electrical Journeyman’s License is preferred. Must complete twelve (12) hours of continuing education every 3 years.
Other: This position is safety sensitive. It is subject to pre-employment and/or periodic background checks, to include MVRs, and drug testing. This position works around animals susceptible to specific respiratory disease, thus is subject to annal tuberculosis testing.
Job Summary: The electrician installs and maintains electrical power, lighting, and control systemsto support and model the Zoo’s mission, vision and values.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
- Read blueprints or technical diagrams.
- Install and maintain commercial wiring, control and lighting systems.
- Inspect commercial electrical components, such as transformer and circuit breakers.
- Identify commercial electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
- Repair or replace commercial wiring, equipment or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
- Installation of EMT conduit.
- Service, troubleshooting, and installation of 3-phase systems 480v and 240/208v.
- Service, troubleshooting, and installation of low voltage controls and lighting systems.
- Follow state and local building regulations based on the National Electrical Code.
- Assist the licensed electrical contractor licensed electrician as needed.
- Communicates with and is overseen by the contractor licensed electrician on any permits and inspections under the electrical contractor’s license.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle for tasks such as, but not limited to, picking up parts for service and repairs.
- Daily interaction with guests while on grounds.
- Participate in conservation activities to support the Zoo’s mission.
