  • Salary: $78,000 – 82, 000 (up to $85,000 with CPA)

Position Summary:  The primary responsibility of the Staff Accountant is to oversee key accounting functions that support the organization’s financial operations, including payroll processing, accruals, treasury management, and financial statement analysis. This role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting while maintaining compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies. By implementing and improving accounting processes, the Staff Accountant prepares reliable, complete and accurate data as a foundation to make strategic financial insights and this directly contributes to the overall financial health and success of the portfolios of companies.

Essential Functions:

Payroll Processing:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll, manage payroll records, and ensure timely payment of payroll taxes and deductions; record payroll entries and prepare accruals at all locations as necessary.
  • Provide payroll-related cost insights based upon trends, budget and forecast to the field and leadership.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare year-end reporting (e.g., W-2s).
  • Prepare and reconcile medical accruals, ensuring proper allocation and reporting.
  • Allocate and reconcile employee benefits costs, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Calculate, record, and reconcile bonus and commission accruals in accordance with company policies.

Accruals & Journal Entries:

  • Prepare and/or review certain accruals, including bonus, commission, and employee benefits.
  • Post and review adjusting journal entries as part of month-end and year-end closing procedures.

Treasury Management:

  • Oversee cash management, cash forecasting, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage relationships with financial institutions and monitor cash flow.

Financial Statement Analysis:

  • Prepare Financial Statements, including reconciliations to supporting documentation of all accounts.
  • Analyze and interpret financial statements, including balance sheet and income statement, both consolidated and by profit center.
  • Prepare variance analysis and management reports.

Employee Accounts Receivable (Ar):

  • Monitor and reconcile employee AR balances, initiate collection efforts as needed.
  • Provide regular aging reporting to People Operations.

Miscellaneous Tases:

  • Debt Reconciliations
  • Cash position reporting
  • Miscellaneous deposits
  • Triple Net (NNN) calculations and communications

General Accounting Functions:

  • Coordinate and complete annual audits and tax filings.
  • Establish and adhere to proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Document processes and Procedures.
  • Respond timely and thoroughly to stakeholder inquiries and requests.
  • Prepare PBC (prepared by client) schedules in advance for supervisor review prior to due date.
  • Respond timely and completely to subsequent PBC requests to ensure review timeliness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States (US GAAP).

  • Experience with financial database programs and web-based applications.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Staff supervision experience preferred.
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, able to communicate complex concepts and risk factors to stakeholders and influence decision making 
  • Ability and aptitude with Sage, Bill.com or similar accounting software, and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment. 
  • Focus on project completion, not the 9-5 grind.
  • Ability to pass background screening requirements, including identity, education, credit, and criminal history checks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or equivalent credentials; if no professional certification, desire to obtain
  • Experience with Sage Intacct
  • Positive attitude with continuous improvement mindset

Physical Requirements:

  • Long periods of stationary work, working on a computer, moving between various work areas, going up and down stairs, talking on the phone, working with office/computer equipment, and sitting at desk or table while listening, talking and taking notes.
