United Educators seeks a proactive and dependable Cloud & Network Security Engineer to manage daily operations and ensure the stability and security of our hybrid IT infrastructure. This mid-level role supports cloud and on-prem systems with a focus on operational excellence, compliance, and incident response.
The Engineer will maintain Azure cloud services, support network and security operations, and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards. This position is suited for a professional who thrives in a collaborative, process-driven environment and is ready to take responsibility for reliable system performance and data protection.
Responsibilities:
Azure Cloud Operations
- Manage and maintain Azure resources including virtual machines, networks, and storage accounts.
- Monitor performance and optimize utilization according to established policies.
- Execute deployments and updates using PowerShell or ARM templates under existing standards.
- Support Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments by managing user sessions, troubleshooting connectivity, and maintaining system integrity.
Security & Compliance (NIST CSF)
- Administer day-to-day security controls aligned with NIST CSF 2.0 and UE’s internal policies.
- Review alerts from security tools, investigate incidents, and escalate when necessary.
- Support vulnerability management, patching schedules, and periodic compliance reviews.
- Enforce role-based access controls (RBAC) and assist in implementing zero-trust access principles.
Microsoft 365 Purview & Data Governance
- Proficient with operating in Microsoft 365 Purview tools to support data classification, protection, and loss prevention
- Generate and analyze DLP and compliance reports for review by senior team members.
- Maintain consistency across security and retention configurations within Microsoft 365 services.
Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Monitor backup jobs and recovery points across Azure and on-prem environments.
- Conduct periodic tests of disaster recovery procedures and document results.
- Ensure all processes adhere to encryption and data handling requirements.
Network Administration
- Configure and maintain firewalls, Layer 2/3 switches, and VPN connections for secure connectivity.
- Monitor network health, troubleshoot performance issues, and apply security patches or configuration changes as needed.
- Implement network security practices, including segmentation, access controls, and traffic monitoring.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with Infrastructure, Security, and Compliance teams to ensure cohesive operations.
- Maintain thorough documentation of configurations, incidents, and operational procedures.
- Participate in operational improvement initiatives and contribute to process automation efforts.
- Provide technical input on new tools or upgrades to improve system reliability and performance.
- Proven experience working with closely with offshore and onshore partners to coordinate projects, align deliverables, and ensure seamless enterprise operations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of experience in IT operations, network administration, or cloud infrastructure management
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud environments
- Experience managing Microsoft 365 environments and data governance tools
- Working knowledge of firewall management (e.g., Fortinet, Cisco) and routing/switching fundamentals
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as NIST CSF 2.0, SOC 2
- PowerShell scripting or automation experience preferred
- Certifications such as AZ-104 (Azure Administrator), AZ-500 (Security Engineer), or CompTIA Network+ are desirable
The below annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
Salary Range$118,550—$140,000 USDBenefits:

- Dental Insurance — Two plan levels are available, depending on needs
- Vision Insurance —We offer in- and out-of-network options; Lasik discounts are available.
- 401(k) — UE makes a 3% safe harbor non-elective contribution beginning the first of the month after date of hire; these funds are vested immediately. After one year of service, employees receive a 7% profit sharing non-elective contribution, as well as become eligible for a matched contribution of 25% of the first 5% employee deferral. Employees can make pre-tax contributions or taxed (Roth) salary reductions. Catch-up contributions for employees 50 years old and over. Employer contributions are fully vested immediately
- Life Insurance — UE pays for Basic Life Insurance, and employees have the option to apply for additional Voluntary coverage
- Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance — We offer coverage in the event employees are unable to work for a period of time
- For the first two years of employment, employees accrue PTO at 24 days per year. At the beginning of the third year of service, employees accrue 30 days per year of PTO
- 11 paid holidays annually including Juneteenth and an employee choice floating holiday
- Bonus eligibility is based on salary earned and performance for the year
