Local Unit & Position Description

Offshore Infrastructure SEA & Japan is part of the OIT (Offshore Infrastructure & Technology) Department in the Energy Systems Business Area in DNV, and it holds an important and strategic position in the marketplace – both locally and globally. It has the ambition of becoming a leading competence centre and prime technical advisor in the Asia Pacific. The unit provides diverse services such as Verification and Certification of Assets and Components, as well as Technical Advisory, for segments in Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream, for assets such as Pipelines, SURF (subsea, umbilical, riser, and flowlines), Fixed Offshore Facilities, Topside of Floaters, Petrochemical & Refineries, Offshore Wind Substations, etc.

The Malaysia team of “Offshore Infrastructure SEA & Japan) consists of about 8 permanent employees and a large pool of subcontractors,  located at the Menara Prestige of Jalan Pinang in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, serving customers for the entire region and beyond. In our unit, we work in synergy to solve different technical challenges and innovate to meet to be ahead of the competition.

We hold a diverse portfolio of customers in Malaysia area, delivering services on verification and certification within the oil, gas, and process industries and renewable energy.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform certification and verification activities for oil & gas and renewable facilities starting from design to commissioning phases, as well as operation phases of the project. The activities include, but may not be limited to:
  • Perform site verification for the construction, installation, testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities – both onshore and offshore. 
  • In-situ metallurgical work at site 
  • Provide review comments and following up on the comments until the comments are satisfactorily resolved.
  • Communicate and liaise with other team members, client representatives and other relevant stakeholders to complete the verification and certification processes.
  • Provide technical advisory and consultancy on the topics within the expertise for the projects where required.
  • Act as project manager for projects within the unit, mainly related to verification and certification services, as well as involve multi-discipline, cross-units, cross-countries, cross-regions. Liaise with DNV management, DNV project team members, client, client’s client, and other relevant stakeholders to successfully manage the project within the given budget and schedule to meet agreed quality and expectations.
  • Act as bid manager for tenders related to the services offered within the unit. Prepare and consolidate input from multiple sources as well as from the team members to finalize the bid and getting the management approval to deliver the bid on time.
  • Having regular face-to-face or virtual communication and networking with customers, chairing internal and external meetings, as well as interfacing with other units, so as to strengthen or build up customer relations and secure project opportunities utilizing DNV’s global resources for the growth of unit. 
  • Coach junior team members to attain the competence within the discipline to work together on the projects. Conduct sharing knowledge sessions within the unit and / or extended audiences within the company where relevant.
  • Attend training courses (internal and external) as required to attain the competence in areas required by the unit to capture the opportunities and contribute to the business development within the unit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 5 years experience within O&G and/or shipbuilding, renewable energy industry as a Inspection Engineer or Metallurgist in Engineering/Consultancy or Construction firms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science. A Master’s or PhD degree in a Applied Science discipline will be an added advantage.  

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Familiarity with Oil & Gas processing equipment and machinery, including subsea facilities, particularly wellheads and XT, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, rotating machines, process piping systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations related to mechanical engineering and the specific industry (e.g., API standards, ASME codes, ISO standards, EU Directives)
  • Experienced in site-based inspection and metallurgical work in-situ.
  • Strong in project management tools is advantageous.
  • Understanding the principles and limitations of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods. Holding qualifications in welding inspection (e.g., CSWIP, AWS welding inspector) provides an added advantage.
  • Strong command of spoken and written English
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, collaborate with other engineers, designers, and professionals from different disciplines
  • Experience in the project management of a small-scale project is an added advantage
