Job Description

Arcadis is looking to hire a Quality Assurance Engineer to support industrial construction projects in automotive sector with our Places Team business unit in our north Mexico area at the client site location in Coahuila. This is an on-site role for a large client of the automotive sector.

As a Quality Assurance Engineer, you will ensure that projects adhere to contract documents, construction codes, construction specifications and client requirements by developing inspection plans based on Contractor’s quality control plan, performing necessary inspections of the Work on a daily basis or when specially needed, maintaining a record of inspections regarding materials, such as concrete, reinforcement steel, steel structure, coatings and paintings, and all components and systems and works on the buildings and infrastructure works on site.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring successful delivery of physical work at project site by supervising the construction of all components of the building and infrastructure. You will be responsible of the quality assurance of the works witnessing all test and quality controls from contractor and by keeping and maintaining a detailed register of all inspections of works including all defects detection, including all tracking from contractor’s notification of non-conformance works until its acceptance. You also will be responsible for the supervision and acceptance of the quality dossier from contractor, as well as the final acceptance of works to be deliver to the property.

Role Accountabilities:

  • QA (Quality Assurance) Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of all projects works, systems, and services in various functions.
  • Ensures conformance to the high level of quality, performance, safety, and/or code requirements by performing audit duties.
  • Read and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Review and provide recommendations to Owner regarding the contractor’s administrative, informational, and technical submittals.
  • Attend and participate in preconstruction, preparatory, contractor coordination and safety meetings.
  • Perform daily site visits and provide appropriate level of documentation of QA activities, including a written report with photos for each visit to the job site.
  • Verify contractor installation and job progress complies with approved shop drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Monitor and assess the quality and compliance of products, systems, and service during every stage of construction.
  • Monitor testing and inspection of materials and products to ensure requirements are being met.
  • Investigate and address all customer complaints and concerns related to quality issues and propose and implement corrective and preventive actions as necessary.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain quality standards and processes.
  • Prepare and maintain every checklist of quality assurance for all the terms of the project and for all kinds of works as necessary.
  • Review contractors daily QC, testing and inspections reports according to task as designated on the checklist.
  • Participate in substantial completion inspections, construction completion inspections and other required inspections.
  • Coordinate with contractor of testing and inspection requirements for on-going and up-coming features of work.
  • Oversee inspections and testing of materials and products to confirm quality conformance to specifications.
  • Create, recommend, and monitor deficient workmanship and non-conforming materials.
  • Once the task is completed, results and recommendations are reported back to the Project Manager for action to be approved.
  • Review payment request and level of progress of each line item to confirm and approve the percentage complete.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and clients using principles of good customer services.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: in Civil Engineering (or Architecture), Construction, Construction Management, or a related field (Degree required), Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Master’s degree would be beneficial – Civil, Structural, Mechanical / Electrical (Engineering) preferable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in various Greenfield and Brownfield Construction Projects (industrial property and industrial buildings).
  • Deep knowledge of local and international construction codes.
  • Deep knowledge of construction concrete structures codes (Norm Técnica Complementaria para Diseño y Construcción de Estructuras de Concreto, ACI-318, and ACI-302) and,
  • Deep knowledge of construction of steel structures, welding code, bolt specification and coatings (Norma Técnica Complementaria para Diseño y Construcción de Estructuras de Acero, Manual IMCA last version, ASTM, AISC-360, AWS D1.1, RCSC Specification, SSPC Standards)
  • Deep knowledge of ASHRAE standards for air conditioning and ventilation or
  • Deep knowledge of NOM SEDE 001 for electrical installations or
  • Deep knowledge of NFPA, ASME, and ASTM codes for mechanical installations.
  • Proven experience managing medium – large projects in industrial sector.
  • Proven experience managing, contractors and sub-contractors, client representatives.
  • Deep knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures and processes with demonstrated experience in pre-construction, construction, commissioning, and hand-over activities.
  • Proven experience in Quality Assurance activities in medium – large construction projects.
  • Full command of verbal and written English communications skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage stakeholder’s expectations and built healthy interpersonal relationships.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate to have a strong work ethic and being a highly motivated and self-driving person.
  • Strong software skills related to Quality Assurance and reporting.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACI, AWS, NFPA, ASHRAE or similar qualifications would be beneficial.
